Poll position: Your reaction
I asked The Apostrophians to provide their reactions to this week's changes, and did they ever respond.
What best describes your reaction to the trades of Geno Smith and D.K. Metcalf?

Excited 🤩
“Two players that I deeply love as a fan. So fun to watch DK do his magic, and such an inspiration to watch what Geno has become after being written off. That said, they are two expensive players who are good to very good, and not great. So faced with a big payout v. parting ways and replacing, I agree with the approach. I also trust John - he's got wayyyyy more data than I do, and his actual job is on the line, so my guess is he's making very good decisions on behalf of the team. ”
“The high rate of interceptions and crappy redzone failures made me open to trading Geno.”
“I feel this team has needed a ‘reset’ or ‘reboot.’ Essentially, a kick in the pants to get them over the edge, shed salary, pick up some draft picks, and essentially reset the direction.”
Sad 😭
“Rebuilding the receiving corps is now going to take away from what should have been the focus of the offseason, which is the Swiss cheese offensive line. Sam Darnold is going to be getting his steps in behind that bunch!”
Confused 😕
“It’s like they want to erase anything and anyone who had anything to do with Pete Carroll.”
Excited 🤩
“DK was good for one important drop every game, not to mention numerous mental meltdowns each year. Geno is a gamer but not worth the asking price by he and his agent. The $50 million delta by signing Darnold could be used for important additions..now make sure they don’t screw up the draft.”
Excited 🤩
“The fact that Geno didn’t counter the Seahawks offer makes one think he wanted out of an organization that he perhaps feels didn’t appreciate him enough. With Geno gone more money is now available to build an offensive line and invest in the future. Also rumor has it Geno and D.K. were not on the best of terms. I’m guessing there were A LOT of issues outside the public eye for both these guys.”
Confused 😕
“Are we ready to be non-competitive offensively while building a strong defense?”
Confused 😕
“DK, sure. Geno, what?”
Excited 🤩
“It’s great. I like Geno but we weren’t moving forward. He wants too much. DK especially way too much for his total contribution. People constantly complain about oline but we lost Lewis because no money. DK trade was equivalent of signing two starting defensive players (JReed and Jones). Net positive. Not paying Geno saves money and again potentially two starters on offense with the savings. Furthermore, we’re setup to start paying some top quality rookies.”
Excited 🤩
“It was time for a change and it's hard to make a change in culture and with the team with players that don't want to be in Seattle. It was time to go back to the formula that brought a Super Bowl victory to Seattle in the first place, defense and a run game.”
Sad 😭
“During his years with the 12s Metcalf kept running the wrong plays; also there were plays in Metcalf's head that never translated to running the right routes.”
Excited 🤩
“Shake it up. If they suck they will get a good draft pick. If it works, then they make playoffs. Need to stop the mediocrity of seven to 10 wins a season. ”
Excited 🤩
“I’m not a Schneider fan, but in this case I thought the moves were needed. Geno has done a good job but not the answer for long-term success. Metcalf’s on-field temper is a problem that isn’t getting better.”
Confused 😕
“I really didn't see the Geno move coming. That was a jaw dropper. However I understand the team not wanting to commit such a huge chunk of change to someone who is on the other side of 35. Plus new system geared towards the run...need a game manager now I guess.😐”
Excited 🤩
“Glad Geno moved on. Disappointed DK is gone. I think the best is yet to come with him. Freak athletes like him don’t grow on trees.”
Confused 😕
“If we are hitting the abort button on the offensive side of the ball I want to go all in and not sign a free agent or any rookie QB before the fifth round. Let's put our energy into the OL and Defense and wait for next year to find the best QB and a WR to replace Geno and DK. My confusion comes from choosing to rebuild the offense in a year where the rookie class is not full of stars. There are great core pieces but I think the stars come a year or two from now in the draft: QB Manning & WR Smith.”
Excited 🤩
“The Hawks felt stuck in mediocrityxcited that they’re willing to take this risk”
Excited 🤩
“I understand that the general feeling is Geno has been serviceable, but for me his inconsistent play in the red zone cost the Seahawks more wins than some of his successful fourth-quarter heroics had won us. And he was not worth 40-45MM/year.”
Excited 🤩
“This team is not in a position to give huge extensions to aging players. They let Bobby walk for this same reason. Sad but prudent. ”
Excited 🤩
“Geno seemed to be the longer-than-expected bridge to a long-term/bright future QB, and I guess he got tired of that label. DK's dissension started simmering last season. So neither move is gobsmacking; I just wish the plan for going forward was a little more obvious and less fraught (e.g., the potential of Mopey Aaron in a Seahawks uni), especially with OL's longstanding issues.”
